Overview
New York enforces a statewide building code, with all code documents fully amended and
published as the official New York State codes. The New York State Department of State
(DOS) oversees code adoption and enforcement. The 2025 New York State codes
incorporate modifications tailored to state requirements, and the full amended versions are
provided directly on the state website (scroll to the bottom).
The National Electrical Code (NEC) is adopted without amendments. Additionally, New
York City follows a separate building code, which is not covered under the statewide
adoption and will be addressed in future versions of the app.

Statewide Adoption

state. The state government adopts and mandates compliance with specific building,
residential, plumbing, and electrical codes. Local jurisdictions must follow these codes
without making significant amendments, ensuring consistency in construction regulations
across the state.
