Overview
New Jersey enforces a statewide building code under the Uniform Construction Code
(UCC), which is administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs
(DCA). The UCC establishes comprehensive statewide standards for construction, ensuring
uniformity and safety across all municipalities. Local jurisdictions do not have the
authority to amend the codes independently, as all amendments are handled at the state
level.

Statewide Adoption
A statewide adoption means that building codes are enforced uniformly across the entire
state. The state government adopts and mandates compliance with specific building,
residential, plumbing, and electrical codes. Local jurisdictions must follow these codes
without making significant amendments, ensuring consistency in construction regulations
across the state.
