Overview
Connecticut enforces a statewide building code, known as the 2022 Connecticut State
Building Code (SBC), which applies to all projects with permit applications filed on or
after October 1, 2022. The 2022 SBC is based on the 2021 International Codes (I-Codes)
published by the International Code Council (ICC) and incorporates the ICC A117.1-2017
standard for accessibility.
Connecticut also maintains an amendment document, which is updated periodically to reflect state-specific modifications to the adopted codes.

Statewide Adoption
A statewide adoption means that building codes are enforced uniformly across the entire
state. The state government adopts and mandates compliance with specific building,
residential, plumbing, and electrical codes. Local jurisdictions must follow these codes
without making significant amendments, ensuring consistency in construction regulations
across the state.
