Overview
North Carolina enforces a statewide building code, administered by the North Carolina
Building Code Council (BCC). The 2018 North Carolina State Building Codes are
currently in effect, which amend the 2015 IRC.. While the 2024 North Carolina State
Building Codes (based on 2021 IRC/IPC) have been finalized, They have been delayed — per Session Law 2024-57, the earliest possible effective date is January 1, 2027. Until then, the 2018 codes (based on 2015 IRC/IPC) and amendments remain applicable.
